ASTRONOMY

• Astronomy Newspaper Project; print collection used as well as  many online resources linked from the curriculum description ; also GOOGLE earth instruction video included as well as RSS feeds to astronomy journals.

BIOLOGY

• WONDERS OF THE LIVING WORLD (2 parts: using  online databases /print sources - difference explained by teacher-librarian)

GEOGRAPHY

• ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE SCRAPBOOK: critical thinking on environmental issues using a variety of resources from many points of view (stakeholders). Research process scaffolding for student.

HEALTH AND CAREER EDUCATION

• PLANNING: online workbook created of free online resources (interactive, video text); assignments

HISTORY

• RESEARCH ESSAY; links to sources so that students can gain knowledge in order to choose topic wisely); more resources on library site; and Canadian History: creating a thesis statement: written, posted and taught by the teacher-librarian.

• EXAMINATION PREPARATION: teacher submitted text list to help students; teacher-libraian hyperlinked list to online resources

• COLD WAR: activity using online and print resources - information evaluation integrated into activity

• NOVEMBER 11: multimedia online resource collected and posted by teacher-librarian; used by class to prepare a presentation for the school

HOME ECONOMICS

• CONTROVERSIAL FOODS: critical thinking in being a food consumer, and learning to create a powerpoint and to communicate concisely

LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

• POETRY WRITING: using an interactive website, learning to cite sources  and to us the blog comments to communicate online

• VISUAL POEM/SONG ASSIGNMENT

• CLASSIC NOVEL STUDY: using free online sound and text files for classic novels and short stories

• DEBATE: learning to clarify thinking with keywords, and tour of EBSCO database

• SPANISH CULTURE PROJECT: collection and posting of sites ( media, newspaper articles, popular and educational and government sources). Also in library stations approach using books (see download fillin sheet)
